Mission

Équipe autonomiste was founded by citizens who wish to improve Quebec’s situation by doing politics differently and by giving everyone a chance to contribute to this effort. For us, governing means making choices for the good of society, even unpopular ones that require sacrifices. For us, social justice means that each citizen contributes to the advancement of society to the best of his or her abilities and that society adequately but solely helps the truly needy.

We advocate freedom of choice, self-reliance and individual accountability, and a society that values effort and merit. We believe that the province is seriously in debt because the public is demanding an ever-growing number of programs that make people less responsible. We feel that today’s politicians focus their efforts on satisfying the whims of noisy minorities to buy votes while not attending to the silent majority who pay without complaining openly.

Our goals:

  1. inform the public to encourage a culture of self-reliant citizens who contribute to society;
  2. cut government spending to reduce the debt and to leave taxpayers with more money;
  3. carefully select and fund those services that are essential to the public and those programs we need for the future of society;
  4. apply simple, inexpensive solutions before undertaking comprehensive reforms;
  5. bring together those citizens who adhere to the party’s values and are motivated to work toward a kind of society that will give Quebec a better present and future within Canada.

Origin of the party and the founders’ vision

Équipe autonomiste is a party that was founded by citizens who wish to improve Quebec’s situation. Its founders want to work with the public because they believe that everyone’s contribution matters and that each citizen can help develop the party by making the most of his or her skills or life experience. The founders give equal weight to the potential of our experienced retirees and to the ardour and intrepidity of our youth. By working together, we will change things in Quebec.

General principles and the party’s vision

We will do politics differently, by being leaders who show the public the worthiness of our policies, which aim to improve Quebec’s long-term situation. Governing better means making choices needed for the present and future of society, even if these choices are unpopular and require sacrifices.

We are aware that power affects one’s sense of judgement and the courage of one’s convictions. We will try not to modify our actions and positions according to their electoral consequences.

For us, social justice means that each citizen contributes to the advancement of society to the best of his or her abilities and that, in exchange, society will adequately but solely help the truly needy. For this reason, a culture based on merit and effort must be brought back into the mentality of our society.

We advocate freedom of choice, self-reliance, and individual accountability. We will thus follow rules of honourable conduct within the party without waiting for laws to be enacted.

As much as possible, we will rigorously base our decisions and positions on verifiable information instead of on perceptions or beliefs.

Statements on what needs to be improved

Our province is seriously in debt because the public is demanding an ever-growing number of costly and sometimes dubious programs that are making our citizens dependent and irresponsible.

There is a flagrant inconsistency between the supposed priorities of citizens and government and the actions they take.

Government, public bodies, and citizens are meddling in areas they are not qualified to deal with while neglecting those for which they are, thus making the system inefficient and costly.

Most of today’s politicians focus their efforts on satisfying the whims of pressure groups and noisy minorities to buy votes while not attending to the silent majority who pay without complaining openly.

Governments make decisions and create programs solely on the basis of recommendations from experts who are often disconnected from reality and who give little weight to “common sense.”

Note: Things that are doing fine in Quebec are not mentioned here, but we will try to identify them and, above all, we will not aim to change them.

Strategies and goals

Inform the public about the government’s finances and the excessive government intervention that is harming the development of our society and mortgaging our future, with a view to encouraging a culture of self-reliant citizens who contribute to society.

Readjust the mandates and roles of the government, of public bodies of all sorts, and of citizens to bring them into line with their initial missions and ensure that everyone will comply.

Cut government spending to reduce the debt and to leave taxpayers with more money so that they themselves may decide how to use it.

Carefully select and fund those services that are essential to the public and those programs we need for the future of society and eliminate all others that make our citizens dependent and irresponsible.

With assistance from citizens with real-life expertise, develop and introduce simple, inexpensive solutions that will produce results quickly, before undertaking comprehensive, far-reaching reforms.

Bring together those citizens who adhere to the party’s basic values and are motivated to build and work toward a kind of society that will give Quebec a better present and future within Canada.
