Proposal 57 : Make it easier for police to deal with people who are mentally ill and potentially dangerous.

Make it easier for police to deal with people who are mentally ill and potentially dangerous.

The aim is to prevent tragedies that result from a patient unjustifiably discontinuing his or her medication or from a sudden turn for the worse in his or her condition. Currently, police officers cannot act until a crime has been committed or until a request for action from the immediate family has been made.
